If a website takes more than a few seconds to load – 39% of people will leave.
A big culprit of slow loading pages is image size and is one of the main mistakes people make with their websites.
Images should be resized for the size that they appear on screen – not uploaded directly from a phone or camera whose images can easily be 10 times bigger. Then they should be compressed, which usually happens by installed software upon uploading.
One of my clients has lots of customer submitted images on their website, showing success with their products.
It is essential to resize and compress all the media to keep a site speedy. This is not only done when building a website, but can be automated to happen as customers submit images to a website.
Is your site performing well? If it’s not, how would you know?
