Hi subscriber,

I received a lot of feedback on last week's email about companies trying to confuse you into switching your domain registration. If you missed it you can see it here.

To follow up on that in case you, or someone who works for you, already fell for it, or if you just want to ensure that you don't accidentally fall for it, here are some extra steps that you can take:

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS NEVER HAPPENS ACCIDENTALLY:
Call or log into your registrar. Put a lock on your domain that will make it impossible to switch unless you get a code from the registrar. (Sometimes this is the default but can depend on the registrar).

IF YOU ALREADY PAID THEM:
  1. Call your registrar immediately. They can put a lock on your domain so that the domain is not able to transfer. The transfer usually takes at least few days after you've paid. So you may have time.
  2. Try to get your money back. Request a refund from the soliciting company. It can't hurt to try!
Thanks for reading.
